When Emilee first met Healthy House founder Pam Coffey her life was filled with chaos. She was actively battling addiction and living life in survival mode. In her first interaction with Pam, she was honest about her current struggles, which stood out.
“I remember my first interaction with Emilee,” said Pam. “She was afraid because she was offered marijuana at one of the bus stops on her way to our house and she smoked some before she realized what she had done. I was very pleased with her being upfront and honest with me and decided to move her in the house.”
However, change didn’t come easily. Emilee admitted “My biggest challenge I faced through the program was me.” This stemmed from a combination of old patterns, self doubt, and the pull of addiction.
Pam remembers watching Emilee navigate through these challenges.
“I believe coming to Healthy House and having the support of the other women who
were on the same journey made a tremendous difference for Emilee”
Emilee’s deep love for her children fueled her determination to continue her recovery journey. Through her persistence and dedication, Emilee was eventually granted a visit with her son.
As she continued her journey at Healthy House, Emilee began to focus heavily on personal growth, leading her to apply to the Momentum program with Urban Alliance. She went on to successfully complete the program.
“The support from Pam and the women I lived with at Healthy House taught me I can’t do this alone, and that I needed a 12-step program,” said Emilee.
Once Emilee realized she didn’t have to face her journey alone, she embraced therapy, outpatient treatment, and accountability.
Emilee’s commitment resulted in much more than sobriety. She was able to repair broken relationships, learned to find joy in everyday life, and no longer lived under the shadow of her next fix.
“A milestone I’m most proud of since completion of the program is being heroin free for four and a half years now,” said Emilee.
Emiliee’s story isn’t over—it’s still unfolding. Her life is proof that hope, when combined with support and determination, can lead to a future brighter than she ever thought possible.
“Her journey is a powerful reminder that while many women face hardships, recovery is possible, and hope should never be lost,” said Pam.
Healthy House is a place where women can find compassion, accountability, and hope. Women have the opportunity to find encouragement from others walking the same path, and access resources like Narcotics Anonymous and Alcoholics Anonymous, as well as therapy, and other treatment programs.
For Emilee, Healthy House was more than a place to live. According to her, “Healthy House will save your life if you give it a chance.”
